AAD UI&UX Lead Engineer

The Opportunity

This role exists to generate and create interaction design for future Jaguar Land Rover products. This centres around the conception and design of user interface systems across the vehicle (including but not limited to instrument cluster, centre screen, voice, gesture and any other appropriate interaction method). Taking on requirements for the general principles of operation, as well as the information requirements of the system being developed then proposing appropriate content design schemes for use in the next gen in-vehicle systems. Working within an automotive field requires consideration of the impact of in-vehicle systems on the driving task and hence designing systems that support a driver to carry out this task is the primary aim. Designs will need to conform to the latest standards and guidance provided by the industry on attention and driver distraction.

This role will work as part of a team including both research and behaviour specialists who will work as a team to develop the future interface systems from the ground up and validated all the way through to real world environments.

Key Performance Indicators

• Define key information requirements based upon requirements / task analysis
• Creation of interface concepts that conform to JLR interaction guidelines
• Creation of testable prototypes to be passed onto the behaviour researchers
• Apply a Human Centred Design approach

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

• Work as part of an agile team developing concepts for future JLR vehicles
• Plan sprints, gather requirements, understand concept options and develop into detailed proposals.
• Work with researchers to agree on interpretation of scientific foundations to base concept design upon
• Creation of concepts, review and refine with stakeholders.
• Build into prototyping system to allow for testing.
• Work with User interface researchers and behaviour specialists to plan testing activities and to Interpret testing outcome to allow for refinement of designs accordingly.
• Have a strong knowledge and experience of developments in the area of human machine interfaces

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Human Computer Interaction, Product Design (with a focus on user interfaces), Psychology, Human Factors / Ergonomics, with a particular interest in interaction design
• Experience of developing user interface designs through a human-centred design process
• Experience of delivering technical products as part of a team.
• Strong interpersonal / communication skills, including ability to manage senior stakeholders and communicate at all levels
• Have the ability to react quickly to short time scales
• Operate in an efficient and professional manner in a fast paced environment
• To present findings to a wide audience of mixed abilities, and be able to amending the content if the message is not received. The candidate must be able to present their findings such that they communicate how to create products that customers love for life.
• Have good contacts, or be able to make good contacts in academia in this technical area and be able to guide the department on who the key experts are in industry or academia.

Desirable:

• Advanced degree (Masters / PhD) in Human Computer Interaction, Product Design (with a focus on user interfaces), Psychology, Human Factors / Ergonomics
• Design experience in the automotive or consumer electronics industries
• Familiar with the science of human interaction in the vehicle and able to help interpret qualitative and quantative data to improve and iterate design solutions.
• Familiarity with Agile & Scrum methodologies
• Experience of building and managing multiple relationships in complex stakeholder environments
