Chapter Lead - On-Board Software Development

The Opportunity 

As a SW Architecture Chapter Lead, you will be responsible for contributing to and raising quality and consistency in product delivery, providing mentoring, technical guidance and pastoral care for our engineers.  

As a SW Architecture Chapter Lead, you are a skilled software engineer who also enjoys coaching, mentoring, and developing associates. You care about delivering value to our customers and improving our solutions and practices. You work with other Chapter Leads in an agile structure to set the standards for your chapter, influence the strategic decisions and contribute with your expertise. 

You oversee chapter members across squads who mainly work autonomously, but report directly to you and make sure a coherent solution architecture is in place, while supporting the team in case of critical technical delivery issues in your product group/domain. You also support them in growing and developing their knowledge area and ensure alignment on the “HOW” of the work they perform. 

Day to day, you will be reviewing and advising on cross domain options & risks, guiding and facilitating tech decisions and bringing together a coherent vision for your group of products, with a particular focus around the integration of a China-specific solution architecture with the Rest of the World solution, either driving new initiatives/features or making sure the RoW architecture is flexible enough to meet the China market demands. 

You will have the opportunity to be involved in the development of the future of automotive and will be influential in the development of the Software platform and features for Jaguar Land Rover vehicles across the range.  

Key Performance Indicators and responsibilities 

• Raise quality and consistency in product delivery including Body Of Knowledge maintenance 

• Create Capability & Technology Roadmaps to meet current and future needs of the business in support of product roadmaps 

• Upskill chapter members through growth plans and guidance 

• Ensure quality of the solution architecture across products 

• Provide technical support and guidance to product development where needed

Knowledge, Skills and Experience 

 Essential: 

• Knowledge across several programming languages, including C/C++  

• SW development and architecture in one of: embedded, automotive, aerospace, transportation SW 

• UML Design 

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience 

• Ability to lead and organise a team of engineers 

Desirable: 

• Knowledge of networking systems and protocols

• You must be empathic, able to listen to understand and coach chapter members to support their wellbeing and advancement.
