Cockpit UI & UX Lead Engineer

The Opportunity
This role exists to create great user experience design for future Jaguar Land Rover products. This centres around the conception and design of HMI for the Infotainment system (including but not limited to, centre screen, voice, passenger entertainment and control screens, and any other appropriate interaction method). Taking on requirements for the general principles of operation, as well as the information requirements of the system being developed then proposing appropriate content design schemes for use in the next gen in-vehicle systems. Working within an automotive field requires consideration of the impact of in-vehicle systems on the driving task and hence designing systems that support a driver to carry out this task is the primary aim. 
This role will work as part of the UX/UI team embedded in the Infotainment department, supporting product squads within Infotainment and liaising heavily with the wider JLR UX/UI community to produce consistent and integrated HMI solutions across the vehicle and wider JLR ecosystems.

 

Key Performance Indicators
•    Define key information requirements based upon requirements / task analysis
•    Creation of interface concepts that conform to JLR interaction guidelines
•    Creation of testable prototypes to be passed onto the behaviour researchers
•    Apply a Human Centred Design approach
 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
•    Work as part of an agile team developing user experiences for future JLR vehicles
•    Plan sprints, gather requirements, understand concept options and develop into detailed proposals.
•    Creation of concepts, review and refine with cross functional stakeholders and brand partners.
•    Build into prototyping system to allow for testing.
•    Work closely with user interface researchers to devise UX requirements for seamless, frictionless user journies 
•    Have a strong knowledge and experience of developments in the area of human machine interfaces

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential:
HARD SKILLS

•    Experience of developing user interface designs through a human-centred design process
•    Experience in end-to-end UX/product design within an agile, multi-disciplinary team environment – including scoping, researching, prototyping and testing.
•    Design and deliver user stories, user journeys and protoypes.
•    Proven track record of creating engaging cross-platform digital user experiences.
•    A creative and innovative approach to iterative design, with strong understanding of usability and user experience principles.
•    Ensure the voice of the customer is key by incorporating customer feedback, usage metrics, and usability findings into UX considerations in order to enhance user experience.
•    Comfortable facilitating workshops and playing back session output to stakeholders. 
•    Knowledge of consumer electronic device and OEM competitor landscape.

SOFT SKILLS
•    Strong interpersonal / communication skills, including ability to manage multiple complex senior stakeholder relationships and communicate at all levels.
•    To present findings to a wide audience of mixed abilities the candidate must be able to present their findings such that they communicate how to create products that customers love.
•    Good influencing skills, comfortable engaging with team members, senior stakeholders, and partners alike.
•    Good written and verbal English level

Desirable:
•    Design experience in the automotive or consumer electronics industries
•    Familiar with the science of human interaction in the vehicle and able to help interpret qualitative and quantative data to improve and iterate design solutions.
•    Familiarity with Agile & Scrum methodologies
•    Experience of Figma, Lucid, Jira and Adobe Creative Suite (primarily Illustrator).
•    Familiarity with JLR feature back catalogue, with an eye for UX / UI consistency.
•    Experience conducting various forms of user research and synthesizing the data to inform product directions
