CHASSIS SENIOR ENGINEER - AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM

ROLE PROFILE

 

Key Performance Indicators

 

  • Deliver below two sections:
  1. Programme Delivery
  1. Successful programme delivery in terms of quality/timing/cost for owned commodities.
  2. Partnership with UK to support China sourced programmes.
  1. Accessing Technology
  1. Sourcing for the new suppliers on the relevant commodities.
  2. Scouting & benchmarking local suppliers’ capability.
  • Build-up & maintain robust connection with core engineering matched pairs in JLR UK.
  • Subject matter engineering knowledge & capability build-up.

 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

 

  • Deliver / support commodity plans to quality, cost and time, including maintaining the Worldwide Engineering Release System / 3DExperince.
  • Identify, track and mitigate engineering risks with Risk & Recovery Plans during the development till FESO (Final Engineering Sign-Off).
  • Work with cross functional teams in JLR China (including purchasing, STA, Strategy, etc) to deeply understand the opportunities of local suppliers’ design, engineering and manufacturing capability.
  • Benchmark and scout new technology trends in the market, understand latest innovation application and unique customer taste.
  • Support Purchasing, STA and UK JLR PE as part of the module team in supplier selection, sourcing and project delivery.
  • Lead Technical Review sessions during early stage of sourcing to evaluate potential suppliers’ engineering capability before formally proposing to JLR UK.
  • Work with STA in PSW delivery and technical problem resolution including supporting technical elements of eAPQP activity.                                                                                                                                    
  • Work closely with vehicle attribute teams and the supplier to develop owned tuning solutions (if there is) to achieve targets
  • Ensure all appropriate JLR standards are met through-out component delivery activities
  • Support to ensure related programme design solutions meet programme targets for cost, time and quality.
  • Participate in cost review forums (for commodity level cost review)
  • Proactively seek opportunities for JLR and support UK teams with GSP "Global Sourcing Process” Requirements.
  • Maintain subject matter knowledge databases for spec updates / trainings.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

Essential:

  • Capability to develop Air Suspension System engineering solutions that meet defined targets on time and to required quality.
  • Good communication skills to ensure efficient interactions with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Familiar with Chassis architectures and development processes, with personal views / insight to future Chassis trends.
  • Evidence-based / Data-driven decision making.
  • Good at reporting complicated topics/issues with easy-to-understand presentations.
  • Bachelor degree or above is compulsory, in engineering (Electrical/Mechanical, Automotive or similar) 
  • At least 2 whole-cycle project delivery of Air Suspension System development experience in OEM or global Tier 1 supplier.

 

Desirable:

  • Previous experience (5 - 8 years) within Automotive OEM or global Tier1 for chosen engineering specialism
  • Experience of JLR processes including WERS releasing, AIMs, APQP, FMEA, RMDV, Smartsheets, Teamcenter
