Chassis Engineer - Brake System

The Opportunity

The JLR China Chassis Engineering Team work on Chassis related commodities (Suspensions, Wheels & Tyres, Brakes, Steering and Axles) and related vehicle attributes (Dynamics / Comfort and NVH etc.). Our mission is to become the JLR Chassis in-market centre of competence (CoC), maximizing global leverage of China opportunities in vehicle development, vehicle production and Chassis system supply. As part of global Chassis CoC, support global team to develop new platform vehicle in JLR Group. We will focus on but not limited to future localized JLR vehicles.

We shall consolidate our areas of engineering excellence, continue to stay on pace with the changing world and build a strong brand in a competitive marketplace. In addition to these challenges, we practice a process of continuous improvement to develop vehicles quicker with ever increasing levels of quality.

The purpose of this role is to coordinate the design, development, testing and introduction of components in Braking system. Operating in an Agile model with cross-functional members within the squad, Chassis Engineer / Senior Engineer - Brake will report to the relevant Chassis Manager to deliver on specific vehicle programmes. The role requires the individual to lead engineering activities basically per the commodity plan and PCDS to quality, cost and on time.

 

 

 

 

Key Performance Indicators

 

  • Braking engineering activity lead in the following sections:
  1. Programme Delivery
  1. Programme delivery successful in terms of quality/timing/cost.
  2. Partner with UK to support the China sourced programmes.
  1. Accessing Technology
  1. Sourcing for new suppliers on the relevant commodities.
  2. Scouting & benchmarking local suppliers’ capability.
  • Build-up & maintain robust connection with core engineering team in JLR UK.
  • Long-term commodity/system design & development strategy build-up.

 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

 

  • Lead to deliver brake components commodity plan to quality, cost and on time, including maintaining engineering releases and changes in WERS and 3DExperince.
  • As the PMST (Programme Module Sub-Team) leader of brake, work with cross functional teams in JLR China (incl. local purchasing, STA, Strategy, etc) and different suppliers to ensure healthy programme delivery and deeply understand the opportunities of local suppliers’ design, engineering and manufacturing capability.
  • Benchmark and scout new technology trends in the market, to understand latest innovation application and unique customer taste for differentiations.
  • Support Purchasing, STA and UK JLR PE as part of the module team in the supplier selection, sourcing and project delivery.
  • Lead Technical Review sessions during early stage of sourcing to evaluate potential suppliers’ engineering capability before formally proposing to JLR UK.
  • Work with STA in PSW delivery and technical problem resolution including technical elements of eAPQP activities.                                                                                                                                   
  • Work closely with vehicle Refinement teams and the supplier NVH team to develop NVH solutions to achieve targets
  • Ensure all appropriate JLR standards are met through-out brake components delivery activities
  • Provide engineering inputs into new feature development.
  • Lead or support to ensure all programme design solutions meet programme targets for cost, time and quality.
  • Proactively seek opportunities for JLR and support UK teams with GSP "Global Sourcing Process” Requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

Essential:

  • Ability to lead the braking engineering solutions which meet defined targets on time and to required quality.
  • Good communication with individuals of multiple cultures, with stable emotion management.
  • Lead to evaluate the performance and merits of brake engineering output from suppliers or service partners to ensure that JLR requirements are satisfied.
  • Ability to help the team maintain robustness working relationships with key interactions such as UK match pair and other functional team.
  • Ability to be fully engaged into the programme development under Agile framework.
  • Bachelor degree or above is compulsory, degree in engineering (Electrical/Mechanical, Automotive or similar) 
  • At least 3 projects of brake engineering development experience in OEM.

 

Desirable:

  • Previous experience (3 years minimum) in global automotive OEMs or global brake manufacturers
  • Awareness of JLR processes including WERS/iCreate, 3D Experience, AIMs, eAPQP, RMDV, etc..
